The primary goal of the program is to complete the field course safely. The instructors' diverse backgrounds ensure safe, wise judgment throughout the field course. They will not compromise the safety of any individual – physical or emotional. We realize our biggest responsibility is to return your child back to you healthy and safe. Whether trekking through the Alaskan wilderness or navigating a Mexican village, the instructors have the experience necessary for the situation.

Medical Training
When assembling an instructor team for any course we offer, the medical training of each person is always considered. We assemble a team that has adequate medical training to be the first responder in any situation. As an organization, we are constantly investing in this by paying for our instructors to attend medical courses geared specifically for adults leading groups in remote settings.

Phone Access
At all times, we have a satellite phone for emergency use. This works anywhere in the world.

immersion spanishSafety Orientation
All students will receive a safety orientation from the instructors during the first days of the field course. There will be briefing on rules, procedures and expectations of the field course. Students will receive instructions on staying with the group, safety and precautions . They will also be instructed on emergency procedures and equipment should anything happen while on the field course.

Health
The group will bring a fully equipped first aid kit so that we can treat injuries or illness. The first aid kit will contain minor over the counter drugs such as ibuprofen, Tylenol, Tums, and the like. It will also contain supplies for any first responder needs. Instructors have been trained in advanced wilderness medicine.

Hospital
If a student needs more advanced medical care than what we can provide, the student will be brought to the nearest clinic or hospital. If necessary, the student will be evacuated from a remote location. You are responsible for this cost.

Insurance
It is very important for parents to confirm that students are insured. If students are not covered, they will not be allowed to participate in this course. Travel agents have access to travel insurance that you can purchase for a certain dollar amount per day. Please be sure that Medivac is included or additionally purchased. Please know that your student will not be allowed to participate if they do not have this coverage. The field courses are safe. However, we want them to be as risk free as possible. To evacuate someone out by helicopter may cost as much as $10,000. It is for this reason we require this additional insurance.

For more info on safety, visit the General Information page for each course. There you will find safety information specific to each course.

As parents, we felt very safe releasing our son on this field course. All the health and safety precautions were excellently planned out and very detailed. The whole experience was outstanding!
