As well as being an exciting adventure, each course is a hands-on learning experience in a classroom with a view. Courses vary. You can explore the sub-arctic while hiking in Denali State Park; discover marine biology while sea kayaking and snorkeling in Baja; or practice Spanish by living in a small Mexican coastal village.
If you choose to earn high school credit, you will provided all necessary materials to complete one or two semesters of independent study coursework (the number of semesters depends on the course).
This approach turns students on to learning through experiential education while stretching them beyond their comfort zones in a safe environment. We focus on a community approach to life and learning; we build a supportive team of members in which students and instructors are all teaching and learning in a cooperative setting. The result is students enjoy learning, master the material and have higher self esteem while gaining leadership skills and knowledge. They also develop a relationship with their surroundings because they've had a personal experience with that particular place or culture. And, by the way, we know how to have fun!
“I think the greatest strength is the fact that the students are putting into practice all the theory and bookwork they have already learned - they are able to see that what they read and learned about in their research and textbooks is really true and has a practical application. It is holistic learning!”
- Parent, Lake Clark
